چکیده

Abstract Background The biological effects of low-dose radiation from cardiac imaging or intervention remain largely unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the ionized catheterization on genomic DNA integrity and inflammatory cytokines in patients operators. Methods Peripheral mononuclear cells (MNCs) were isolated (n=52) operators (n=35) before after coronary angiography and/or percutaneous intervention. Expression gammaH2AX, a marker for double-strand breaks, was measured by immunofluorescence. Dicentric chromosomes (DICs), form chromosome aberrations, assayed using fluorescent situ hybridization technique. Results In patient MNCs, numbers gammaH2AX foci DICs increased 101±75% 28±99%, respectively (P<0.05 both). mRNA expressions interleukin (IL)-1α, IL-1β, leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) caspase-1 significantly exposure catheterization. increase IL-1β correlated with that but not dose area product. operators, neither nor level changed, increased. Protein expression IkappaBα decreased both groups. Conclusions damage MNCs patients, who underwent Inflammatory presumably through activation NF-kappaB. DNA Damage in Leukocytes from Fanconi Anemia (FA) Patients and Heterozygotes Induced by Mitomycin C and Ionizing Radiation as Assessed by the Comet and Comet-FISH Assay

Background: Lymphocytes of Fanconi anemia (FA) show an increased sensitivity to the alkylating agents such as mitomycin C (MMC), but their responses to gamma-irradiation is controversial. The extent of DNA damage in leukocytes of FA patients following irradiation and MMC treatment was studied at cellular and single chromosome level. Methods: DNA damage induced by gamma-rays and MMC was measure...

Radiation-Induced DNA Damage in Operators Performing Endovascular Aortic Repair

BACKGROUND Radiation exposure during fluoroscopically guided interventions such as endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) is a growing concern for operators. This study aimed to measure DNA damage/repair markers in operators perfoming EVAR. METHODS Expression of the DNA damage/repair marker, γ-H2AX and DNA damage response marker, phosphorylated ataxia telangiectasia mutated (pATM), were quantified...

Radiation exposure in different cardiac catheterization procedures in cath lab.

BACKGROUND Interventional procedures render cardiologolists and their team members to high doses of radiations. This study was conducted to assess the radiation exposure in various cardiac catheterization procedures. METHODS This descriptive cross sectional study was conducted at the catheterization laboratory of Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar from November 2008 to December 2009. Patients wer...

Radiation exposure to the child during cardiac catheterization.

Few data are available regarding radiation exposure to children during cardiac catheterization. Using lithium fluoride thermoluminescent dosimeters, radiation exposure was measured during precatheterization chest roentgenography, fluoroscopy (hemodynamic assessment phase of catheterization) and cineangiography in 30 infants and children, ages 3 days to 21 years. Dosimeters were placed over the ...
